Duke Health seeks Associate Dean of Education for the Section of Surgical Disciplines
The School of Medicine, Section of Surgical Disciplines at Duke University is conducting a search for a faculty member at the Associate or Professor level to serve as Associate Dean of Education. The Associate Dean will be senior-most leader charged with leading the educational endeavors of the Section and overseeing all the educational programs conducted by the Departments of Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences. They will also foster a growing surgical education research portfolio.
The Associate Dean of Education will oversee the facilities (e.g. SEAL lab) supporting the educational mission, and either directly or through delegation ensure that the facilities are meeting the needs of the learners and being conducted in a fiscally sustainable manner. The
ADE will coordinate and further develop educational programs in conjunction with the Medical Student Clerkship, Residency and Fellowship Program Directors and the Director of the SEAL Lab.
The ideal candidate will hold or have held an educational leadership role in surgery such as Program Director, Simulation Center Director or VC of Education or equivalent with a proven track record of educational leadership and excellence in teaching.
A strong history of scholarly activity in education research or curriculum design is expected.
The candidate will also have an active surgery practice and a skill set that complements and extends the capabilities of surgical education. Demonstrated experience in successful leadership of teams including managing priorities, personnel, and resources is a must.
