Duke Optometrist Faculty Position

Ophthalmology
Physician

The Department of Ophthalmology, Duke University School of Medicine (DUSM), is seeking a highly-qualified optometrist for a full-time faculty position as a member of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Division.  Candidates with residency training and a strong background and interest in the use of PROSE devises and scleral lenses are preferred.  Interest in perioperative care including possible co-managing of cataract patients is a plus.  Salary and title will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The optometrist will be expected to function as an independent practitioner within a schedule including ocular surface diseases, immunology and graft versus host disease in the center for ocular immunology at the Duke Eye Center, incorporating primary chronic and acute eye care as well as specialty contact lens fittings for adults and occasionally children.  They will be responsible for contributing to the education of ophthalmic technicians, and ophthalmology residents.  The individual selected will have an opportunity to attend clinical rounds, lectures, and conferences.  Initiating or participating in research projects will be possible but not required.

The position represents a unique opportunity for individuals with outstanding clinical skills, experience in the management of eye disease, perioperative care, an interest in scleral lenses, and a desire to be in an academic environment in which optometrists and ophthalmologists work in concert.

Duke Eye Center is a well-respected leader in patient care, education and research is ranked #6 in the US News and World Report Best Hospitals annual survey, and has consistently remained in the top 10 for almost 30 years.
