Duke Divisions of Gastroenterology and Thoracic Surgery Partner to Form The Esophageal Center at Duke

The Gastroenterology division in the Department of Medicine and the Thoracic Surgery division within the Department of Surgery have teamed up to create a new center to treat esophageal conditions. The new center is located in Clinic 2J.

Led by program directors Matthew Hartwig, MD, and Rahul Shimpi, MD, the Center will provide services to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), swallowing disorders such as esophageal dysphagia, and esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia.

Referrals will go through regular scheduling channels for Gastroenterology and Thoracic Surgery.
