PDC Achieves Highest Work Culture Score at Duke since 2009
From PDC Executive Director Paul Newman:
I am proud to share with you the PDC results of the 2016 Work Culture survey. According to Press Ganey, the PDC has achieved the highest level of engagement since Duke began conducting the survey in 2009. This year, the PDC scored in the 89th percentile as compared to the national healthcare average. This is outstanding, and up from the 82nd percentile last year.
Our scores show that the PDC’s investment in employee safety, teamwork, benefits, and resources is leading to overall employee satisfaction and commitment. Our scores also show that we rank significantly higher than our peers in the areas of pay, physician-staff teamwork, staffing, work-life balance and job stress.
In addition to our high engagement scores, I’m also proud that:
- 90% of our employees responded to the survey
- 85% of our managers are prepared to lead us through change
- And we made improvements from last year in the following areas:
- Climate of trust
- Safety and error-free care to patients
- Ethical behavior
- Physicians and staff work well together
- Job training
- Tools and resources to provide the best care
While we celebrate this success, the PDC remains committed to continuously improving the experience for all employees. This year we are developing plans that focus on improving in the following areas:
- Staff communication
- Staff onboarding and recruitment
- Empowering employees to work well together
- Accountability for productivity
Of all of the measures of success, I am most proud of our employees’ willingness to go above and beyond, and your loyalty to your jobs.
