Dr. David Attarian is Professor and Executive Vice-Chair for Orthopaedics and Chief Medical Officer of the Private Diagnostic Clinic.

Attarian attended Duke University School of Medicine after receiving his undergraduate degree from Princeton University. He was an AOA graduate of Duke and completed the Duke Orthopaedic Residency before serving in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, Attarian served as the Chair for Orthopaedics and Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, team orthopaedic surgeon for the NHL Florida Panthers, and orthopaedic consultant for the Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins.

Attarian returned to Duke in 1999 as Professor and Executive Vice-Chair for Clinical Orthopaedics and Medical Director of the Musculoskeletal CSU. Attarian has received numerous national and international awards and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, NC Orthopaedic Association, and the NC Medical Society.

Paul R. Newman is Senior Vice President of the Duke Private Diagnostic Clinic, PLLC, and Executive Director of the Duke Patient Revenue Management Organization.

Newman began work at the PDC in September 1994, and was named Executive Director of the Patient Revenue Management Organization in March 2001. 

Newman serves on numerous boards and committees, including as President of the Academic Practice Plan Directors; AAMC Steering Committee on Group Faculty Practice; and as a Board Director of the Durham Casualty Insurance Company.

Newman received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University in 1983 and a Masters of Health Administration from Duke University in 1988.

Vice President, Clinical Operations

Tammy has responsibility for PDC clinic operations. She works collaboratively to coordinate the delivery of cost effective and safe clinical care in each PDC clinic, and to strengthen leadership development and capacity building for clinic managers and staff. She also works with PDC medical and administrative leadership to develop, implement and oversee PDC clinical care models for delivery of services to patients and families. Tammy is integral to ensuring that PDC services (i.e., financial, clinical, patient experience, human resources, technology and programmatic strategies) are designed to meet the needs of patients, PDC physicians and PDC staff.

Associate Vice President, Compliance, Privacy, Security and Integrity

Brian Bonanno has been with the Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) over the past 10 years in which time he has provided oversight and leadership to various aspects of the Revenue Cycle including Coding, Charge Capture, Billing Systems, CDM and Clinical Trials services.

Over the past five years, he had served as the Director of Revenue Operations and Coding where he helped to support Professional Revenue Cycle services for both the PDC and DUHS.

Prior to coming to Duke, Brian spent over 8 years as a consultant in the Coding, Compliance and Education industry with his focus on Physician Services.  In this role, Brian was an industry expert and speaker on Evaluation and Management services, Interventional Radiology and other Coding Compliance topics.

Brian received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998 where he majored in Sociology of Medicine with a focus in Healthcare Administration.

Associate Vice President, Nursing, Clinical Associate Faculty- Duke University School of Nursing

Dr. Brewer provides oversight for the development and practice of nursing across PDC clinical settings. She leads efforts to transform nursing practice and ensure provision of quality nursing care in accordance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations. This includes ongoing development, monitoring and evaluation of nursing activities related to quality indicators of care, accountability for practice compliance, resource allocation, and other activities to advance the PDC mission and improve patient outcomes. Brewer also works collaboratively with nurses and leadership to design and maintain a nursing infrastructure that aligns PDC ambulatory nursing within the context of the DUHS Nursing Professional Practice Model. 

Dr. Brewer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from North Carolina Central University, a Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration from Duke University, and a PhD Degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Vice President, PDC Ambulatory Services and Access

Simon directs and integrates the various functions of PDC ambulatory services into one organizational strategy and oversees the operations, finances, performance and quality outcomes of all PDC and CPDC clinical sites, and Duke Health Access Services. He also works with leaders to drive innovation throughout ambulatory operations, including increasing capacity within and accessibility to PDC clinics, streamlining operations, improving the patient and provider experience, developing care models, transitioning to value-based care, among other initiatives. He is very interested in finding innovative ways to support physicians in delivering care in an efficient, high quality and patient-centered manner.

Simon received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from University of Richmond and a Master of Healthcare Administration from University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

He is also a founder and the preceptor for the PDC Administrative Fellowship Program.

Chief Financial Officer

Chris serves as a key advisor and works collaboratively with PDC leadership and stakeholders to assure a successful and stable financial future for the practice. Chris provides financial planning of new initiatives to optimize resources in support of the PDC’s mission and strategic priorities. His responsibilities include oversight and management of the finance and accounting offices, reimbursement, revenue management, managed care contracting and real estate transactions. He also has primary responsibility for the development and implementation of the annual operating budget of approximately $1 billion.

Jennifer leads the quality, safety, and patient experience teams through The Join Commission reaccreditation as well helping implement and streamline policies, projects and processes to ensure the highest quality of care is delivered to our patients.

Brittany comes to the PDC with more than 10 years of leadership experience and a nursing background.  She most recently served as the Director of Emergency Services at WakeMed Health & Hospitals with oversight over clinical practice, operations, quality, safety and performance improvement for the trauma center, emergency departments and clinical evaluation areas.  She also sat on the COVID-19 incident command team and lead monoclonal antibody work and expansion across the system.  

Additionally, she served as The Joint Commission chapter lead for restraints and proudly implemented the state’s first emergency-department-based opioid prevention program which provided free Narcan Take Home kits to any qualifying patient presenting with history of substance use disorders.

Brittany describes herself as an extrovert and problem solver—both of which were valuable in her 15 years spent as an ER nurse.

Associate Vice President, Revenue Management

Michael directs the identification, establishment, implementation, and monitoring of financial-analysis processes that contribute to the success of revenue cycle efforts on behalf of the clinical departments for the PDC.  Working with a team of Revenue Managers, he leads the effort to report and track operational performance across the entire spectrum of the clinical enterprise, looking for trends and reporting on areas of weakness that need focused attention.  Michael also acts as a resource for clinical and operational leadership regarding all aspects of accounts receivable processing and reporting.

Joe is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, accounts receivable monitoring, accounts payable, payroll and managing the cash flow for the PDC.  In addition, he is responsible for the coordination of the annual external audit, preparation of tax returns and for the PDC’s financial policies and procedures, its accounting practices and the maintenance of its fiscal records.

Associate Vice President of Management Services

Jennifer provides leadership and direction on programs and initiatives to enhance the patient and provider experience and optimize performance excellence across practices. These efforts currently include the Specialty Patient Engagement Center and Digital Health initiatives in collaboration with PDC's physician leadership teams.

Jennifer brings more than 20 years of experience in ambulatory healthcare leadership and program development—10 of which come from other entities within Duke Health (Duke Primary Care, Duke Cancer Institute and Duke Regional Hospital), as well as external experience with US Oncology. She most recently, served as administrative director for Duke Regional’s Hospital based clinics and Durham community-based COVID vaccination clinics.

Jennifer has Master of Science degree in nursing and healthcare administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is a Board Certified Advanced Nurse Executive, and serves as a volunteer career coach with Dress for Success.
