Designing the Patient Experience

Kim Denty, MSN, BA, RN, CPPS, is passionate about creating safe, beautiful spaces for patients throughout the Triangle area. Through her work as associate vice president of safety and accreditation, and vice president for clinical site development for the Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC), Denty gets to live her passion every day.

“My position allows me to utilize my nursing and business background to build beautiful, safe and comforting spaces for our patients and their families,” she said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see one of our clinics and know that I was part of the team that helped to design and construct the clinics that patients visit every day.”

Through her work maintaining accreditation, safety and quality in 81 PDC clinics throughout the area, Denty is responsible for developing new clinical sites. But her work involves more than designing the buildings – it’s about making them a place where patients feel comfortable.

“Patients and their loved ones trust us to provide world-class care, and that begins at the front door,” she said. “It’s our responsibility to understand and incorporate evidence-based solutions to meet patient safety and comfort.”

Whether it’s adding an affirmative statement to the clinic walls, or a feature that may help calm an anxious patient’s nerves, Denty’s work is patient-focused through and through. She was recently named a Triangle Business Journal Health Care Hero.

“Receiving the Health Care Heroes award for my work was a great honor,” she said, “especially because I was in the company of so many other award recipients who have touched so many patients.”
